Sancte Diaboli: Part Two, the all-new, highly anticipated installment in the Elite Kings series that will leave you on the edge of your seat from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Amo Jones, is available now!

He held a darkness that could never be touched.
She carried a light that could never be seen.

Not by anyone. Only by each other.

Simply two halves of the same soul, Brantley and Saint were fused together with equal parts wrath and peace. Nothing could break through their bond. Nothing.

Until now.

Sancte Diaboli Part Two is the seventh book of The Elite Kings Series. You cannot read this as a standalone. You have to read the entire series to understand this world completely. I highly recommend, because you’ll blow your mind!
First I have to say that I’m so sorry to have to say goodbye to this series and its amazing characters. I highly recomment to everyone who loves twisted and dark stories. I cannot think Amo can do this better, because Sancte Diaboli Part Two is the best end of an amazing series. I’m so glad to have a chance to get to know this characters. They’re completely unique, badass and near my heart. I don’t know how I can say goodbye to them…. I just cannot. I’m speechless. My heart is bleeding for them. I cried, twice, yeah!
I read the book in two sitting. It can be read so easily. I felt like I was coming home. The plot is so twisted and I never know what will happen. When I thought everything will be all right that was the time when Amo made something mind-blowing thing and everyhing will be upside-down. Brantley & Saint are completely different characters than Madship and Tillie & Nate. That’s too hard to explain because you have to feel it while you reading this book. I think this kind of a relationship is so unique and rare.
We got to know a lot of things in the first book but in the second we get the entire story. So many thing had happened in the last, some of completely shocked me and some of which I was calculating. I can’t wait to read Ruined Castles and the next generation’s books because I know Amo’ll make it twisted, amazing and dark like she always done.

Saint
Prologue

Everyone has a story, and when you die, your memories cling to the minds of the people you leave behind, scripted in permanent ink. They can go back and visit their favorite chapters when they need comfort, or simply skip over the scenes they want to forget, but what they can’t do, is be removed. Even if you tear a page from a well-written book, there will always be telltale signs something was there. There you lie, embedded in their minds forever, so essentially you’ll live forever, right? I didn’t think much about this until I met him. The day that I would die, I mean. Would I leave behind a novella, or would it be a nine-book series that would need your undivided attention? You see, I’ve gazed into the eyes of death twice in my life, and both times began at the entrance of his soul. His stare was always heavy and roguish, but he lit a match inside my body that would burn a lifetime after I’m gone. I wasn’t sure what I felt the first time his cold, corpse-like skin sailed over mine, but I remember it was the exact day that I knew I would never be the same. I was touched by the Devil; Heaven would never want me now. Not that Heaven was where I belonged either, though I’m sure he thought so. Tortured souls still weep; they tear themselves apart in dark corners where no one can see. Brantley is just that—tortured—though he doesn’t conceal it. He wears his darkness like a souvenir, proud and indifferent. I knew Brantley from the inside out, and I say that literally. I was familiar with the notes that his blood left in my mouth well after I had swallowed it.
And I think that will haunt me more than anything. It will haunt me so much more than this day.
The day my book hit the final page.

Chapter 1
Dove

I will never be as beautiful as I was before my face was ruined by a madman.
It's a hard truth, a bitter pill to swallow, but one that I've come to accept. My fingertips glide over the puckered scar. My reflection stares back, judging my appearance. I was pretty once. Years ago, before he cut me. I was pretty, careless, young, and stupid. I'm none of those things now.
"Dove, are you coming?"
"One second," I call out, untucking the dark strands of hair and allowing them to fall over my cheek, covering the scar. Like this, I look almost like I used to. I'm not the innocent nineteen-year-old I used to be. I'm twenty-seven now. I'm on a new path. I have a new life. A different kind of life. Sometimes I wonder if I would've been happier without the scar. But it's a dangerous path to go down. Better to focus on what I have than what could never be.
"Dove!"
"Coming!" I peel myself away from the mirror, sighing as I tuck my hair behind my ear again. There's no point in hiding the scar. They all know it's there. It's the reason I got this job, after all.
I leave the bathroom, exiting into the studio where the bright lights blind me. I groan inwardly. Why the hell did I agree to do this again? Because of Robin, I remind myself. Because I'd do anything for my brother. He's all I have.
"Where do you want me?" I ask, standing awkwardly in the middle of the brightly lit space.
Raphael glances up from his camera, shooing his assistant. His brows knit together when he sees me. "You messed with your hair."
"I'm sorry," I mutter, fighting the urge to play with it again. "It was too perfect."
He approaches me, critically examining my features as he toys with the strands of hair framing my face. He doesn't touch or mention the scar, and I'm grateful for it. I know how hard it is to ignore.
"It looks better this way," he finally says, more to himself than me. "You'll have to take the robe off, though."
"Sure," I nod. "What am I wearing?"
Raphael returns to his setup, making sure his camera is connected to the computer screen. He doesn't look at me, fiddling with the cables as he says, "Nothing."
"Nothing?" Panic seizes my body in a deathly grip, my heart nearly jumping out of my chest at the thought. I do my best not to show it. I don't want to spoil this for myself. "What do you mean?"
Finally, Raphael glances up from the screen. "This is a nude shoot. Didn't I mention that?"
Wordlessly, I shake my head. The lump in my throat is getting bigger and bigger. What the hell did I get myself into? Damn Robin. He never mentioned this little detail. I wonder if he knew. My hands shake as I tug on the tie holding the black silk robe in place. I don't want to take it off, but what choice do I have? Raphael Santino is a world-renowned photographer. Booking this shoot was an honor. I can't let him down now.
"Sit on that chair," he says, staring through the lens of his camera as he points me underneath the bright lights. They all point at the chair, and I walk over there. It's hot under the lights, but not hot enough for me. I thrive in the heat. The cold always reaches my bones, making me feel more alone than ever. "Robe off, Dove."
I glance at everyone else in the room. There are two assistants, a lighting guy, as well as the makeup artist and hairstylist. I want to ask if they're all staying for the shoot, but I'm too embarrassed, not wanting to show just how inexperienced I am.
"Pronto, Dove," Raphael sighs, then follows my gaze to the rest of the people in the room. He seems to have picked up on my nervous energy. "Would you be more comfortable if we were alone?"
I contemplate his words. It would be easier to have just one judging pair of eyes on me instead of five. But out of all the people here, Raphael is the most intimidating by far. The Mexican photographer is gorgeous. Messy black hair, the most intense dark gaze and a body that looks like it’s carved from stone. I've seen his Instagram feed. Even his selfies look like works of art, and he has beautiful models throwing themselves at him all day long. So what the hell does it matter? It's not like the guy's interested in me, anyway. He doesn't care what I look like. I'm not his girlfriend – I'm just the inspiration of the day.
"Yes," I finally manage.
He clicks his fingers and my watchers file out of the studio while casting curious glances at me. I can tell the hairstylist, Jenna, is jealous. She was eating Raphael up with her eyes earlier. She must be hating this. The thought gives me a sick kind of satisfaction, yet I’m dreading what I’m about to do.
“When you’re ready,” Raphael says, returning his eye to behind the lens.
I get to my feet, the bright lights unforgiving, my hands trembling as I tug on the tie and the robe comes undone. I let it fall off my pale shoulders, gathering at my feet in a pool of silk. I can feel Raphael's gaze on me as he drinks in my body, and shame threatens to burn me up from the inside.
But the photographer doesn't mention any of my imperfections. Not the fact that I'm painfully thin, emaciated. Not the tiny cuts covering my body, scars from years ago and some as fresh as a few days back. He doesn't talk about my visible ribcage, or the hipbones painfully protruding through my pale skin. Doesn't mention the scabbed scars on my thighs. And it's a welcome relief.
This is who I am. This is what I look like. If he doesn't like me, that's fine – I just hope he's quick and as painless as possible when he turns me down. But the words never come. Instead, I'm blinded by the flash of light as he snaps a photo.
"Hermosa," he mutters, admiring his own work on the screen. "Just fucking beautiful."
It's been a long time since I've been called beautiful.
For the next three hours, I work hard as Raphael's muse. He positions me in different ways, neither of us stopping for a second. I'm naked for the entire shoot, but it doesn't feel icky like I feared when Raphael first mentioned it. He doesn't look at me like a sex object. He looks at me almost impersonally, as though I'm a work of art he's been sent to capture. Like a true artist.
By the time he finally announces we're finished, I'm feeling exhausted.
"Do you want to see the photos?" he asks as he stares intently at the computer screen, scrutinizing our hard work. "I think they came out –"
"No, that's okay," I cut him off. I don't want to hear the ending of that sentence. "As long as we're done here, I'd like to head back home."
"Of course." He gives me a curious glance. This time, he doesn't look at me like I’m an object. He looks at me as a woman, and his gaze lingers on my puckered nipples, on the black trail of hairs leading down to my neglected center. I flush, letting my hair fall over my face to hide the traitorous blush in my cheeks. Picking the black silk robe off the floor, I put it on as fast as I can. Once I'm covered by fabric again, I can finally breathe.
"Thank you for this opportunity," I say, my gaze meeting Raphael's. "I'm really grateful."
"Of course you are," he smirks. Cocky. But why wouldn't he be? "It was my pleasure, honestly, Dove. We have something amazing here. I'll be in touch in a few weeks with the final selection."
His eyes drink me in again as I head to the clothing rack where the clothes I came in are still hanging. I rummage through my purse first, seeing a couple of missed calls from my brother. He's probably anxious to know how everything went. I didn't expect for the shoot to take this long.
I smile to myself. Robin's way too protective, but I'm grateful for it. I can't trust my own judgement, never could. Robin makes sure I'm okay, and not getting into too much trouble.
"Unless..."
"What?" I turn back to face Raphael who is still staring at me intently. "Unless what?"
"Unless you'd like to see me before then." He smirks. The cockiness would be unbearable on any other man, but Raphael has a certain kind of charm that makes it impossible to hate him for being so forward. "I like you, Dove. You're... different."
Not special. Not beautiful. Different.
But it's a compliment, nonetheless. I stare back into the photographer's gaze, pondering his words. There's no way I can live up to the flock of picture-perfect, barely legal models that decorate his arms at public functions. I'm not as pretty, and I'm too broken. But maybe that's exactly why he likes me.
"Are you asking me out?" I wonder out loud, and he laughs.
"You're really straightforward, aren't you?" he asks, and I shrug in response.
"No point in pretending. I am what I am," I reply.
"I like that." He sets his camera down, grinning at me. "I guess I am asking you out. Have dinner with me. Tonight."
"Tonight?" I shake my head. "No, I can't tonight."
"Got another hot date?"
I think of my plans. Dinner with Robin, then curling up in front of the TV, binging the same TV shows for the thousandth time. "You could say that."
"You're a popular girl, Dove Canterbury," Raphael smirks. "I'll settle for tomorrow then. And don't give me another excuse. I want to see you again, soon as I can."
I weigh up the pros and cons. The negatives by far outweigh the positives, but despite that, I find myself nodding in response to Raphael's question. I grab a pen from his desk and scribble my address on a pink Post-It note, handing it to him.
"Pick me up here. Eight p.m. tomorrow."
"Do I get your number too?" He raises his brows, obviously amused. I hesitate, but then scribble that down, too. "And your social media? Instagram? Facebook? Do you have Twitter?"
"No," I reply firmly. "I'm not on social media."
I neglect to mention my Instagram account, but I don't want him to know about that. Not even Robin does.
"You're an enigma, Dove Canterbury," he mutters. I ignore his words and change in the studio while his gaze swallows me up with curiosity. What's the point of hiding now? The guy's already seen me naked from every angle.
"Well, you got yourself a deal. I'll pick you up tomorrow. Say hi to your brother for me, alright?" Raphael says once I'm back in my baggy clothes that hide a multitude of sins.
"Sure." I smile awkwardly and grab my purse, hoisting it on my shoulder. "You have a good day."
I exit the studio into the office area. The hairstylist glares at me, but I ignore her, saying my goodbyes and heading outside while ordering an Uber on my phone.
I wait outside. It's warmer here than it was in the air-conditioned studio, but still not enough to warm my cold bones. Nothing can stop the cold spreading from the inside.
As I wait for my driver, I scan the passersby for any sign of trouble. But no one pays me much attention. I'm invisible like this, in my all-black, baggy clothes, natural makeup, and my hair covering half my face – the ruined half.
But then a mother walks by, holding a little girl's hand, and my heart jumps. The girl is cute, wearing a pink tutu and light-up pink sneakers. She must be about four. Really freaking cute. I smile at her, and she gives me a curious look while her mother impatiently tugs on her hand.
Tucking my hair behind my ear absentmindedly, I push my tongue out and make a face at her.
Her eyes widen as she notices the scar on my cheek. I almost forgot about it. Almost.
But as the little girl's smile changes into a grimace, I know I can never forget.
I'm ruined. A monster. And nothing will ever change the fact that Parker Miller destroyed my life eight years ago. I hate the bastard.

Words are my weapon.
Stories wrap around my soul, choking me, capturing you.
I don't work in dreams.
I don't offer escapes.
I cage you within my nightmares.

Magnolia Grace is a horror writer, despite what the name might suggest.
One of the best in the business, if you asked around.
Pressure comes with that title. Expectation for the next nightmare. The next bestseller.
Sickness.
That's what it is.
She can't be healthy. Because that means she won't write.
And she hasn't been writing.
A looming deadline and a crumbling psyche drive her into the woods. To a cabin which was the site of a grizzly murder.
A serial killer, butchering women, toying with her.
Her plan is to borrow some of the horror that seeped into the soil.
But hers follows her.
The woods are meant to be her escape. But they are almost her demise.
Almost.
He was an unlikely saviour. An unexpected muse. He has horrors of his own. A motorcycle club looking to settle a score. A soul too broken to offer her anything but pain.

5 *SELFISH* star

Splinter of You is the first book in the Retired Sinners MC series. It is completely different than Anne's other books. It is her DARKEST book EVER and it has become my fav from her. It is more than horror, romance, mistery and crime, it is more than ABOVE ALL. It is EVERYTHING! It inspired me, yes maybe I'm weird, but that doesn't appeal to me. The story was inhaled me into the first pages and I enjoy every single moment while a read.

We can read this story in present time from Magnolia's POV. She is a horror writer, she's the darkest and the most honest heroine who I know. In spite of all these she is very likeable character to me. She has skeletons in her closet, she is lonely, but she like that. I liked that she didn't think too hard, don't want to comply with anyone. She did what she wanted.

Beside the dark heroine we can know a similar and yet completely different hero. His name is Saint. He is patient and caring but but there are skeletons in his closet too.
They are perfect together but they are destroy each other too. They don't want fake people in their lives. Like you or me.

This book is a war! War with ourshelves, with everyone. But maybe in the end you finally have peace. I find peace!

I cannot tell how much I love this book!!! Splinters of You gripped my soul, and yours will too! What I feel is indescribable. I want to cry, broken and crushed. I'm can't wait to read the next books in the series.

Értékelésem magyarul

A Splinters of You a Retired Sinners MC sorozat első része.

Magát a történetet jelen időben Magnolia szemszögéből olvashatjuk.

A Splinters of You rabul ejtette a lelkemet, és a tiédet is rabul ejti majd! Leírhatatlan amit érzek. Sírni, sőt törni-zúzni akarok! Alig várom hogy olvashassam a következő részt!

EXCERPT

"Her blood was like wine. Aged. Rich. Rare. No one else would spill it but me."

I knew I made a mistake the second I pulled off the interstate and onto a winding road, poorly paved, full of potholes, bordered by dense wood.
Even though I'd only been on the road a handful of minutes, with the open spaces of the interstate still visible in my rear view, the feeling of suffocation was overwhelming. The wood strangled me. Nature smothered me-
I had to clutch the steering wheel to stop myself from slamming on the brakes, turning the car around, and driving all the way back to my apartment in New York. The city had never felt this suffocating, despite the fack it had one of the highest population densities in the country. Despite the fact there was no such thing as privacy, where people defecated on the streets, fucked in parks, had babies in cabs, and died everywhere, but that was what I'd liked about it. The life was lived in the open. Started in the open. Ended that way. There was an ugly honesty that fed my own ugly soul.
Granted, I had a lavish, spacious apartment overlooking the park, and even with the millions it was worth, it wasn't exactly huge. Plus, it was one I had up until about a week ago, shared with whi was now my ex-fiancé.
Though, I figured if I did turn around right now, swallow all of my pride, abandon my dignity, I could take the ex out of that title.
No, I couldn't do that. Fail before I'd even truly started. That wasn't an option anyway. The aforementioned apartment was already in escrow-thank you to the New York property market - and all my stuff that wasn't in the back of the car - which was a lot despite the car being full to the brim-was in storage.
My friends (people who pretended to like me for their own selfish reasons and that I pretended to like my own) had thrown the goodbye party, pictures were taken, and farewells were made. Though the closest of my friends had considered having me committed against my will as she thought I'd truly gone crazy when I announced I'd be leaving the loud, dirty noisy city I had once loved to move to a tiny town in Washington State that was barely on any maps.
I was, of course, crazy. All authors were crazy, weren't they? If I could still call myself and author. I hadn't written in mondths and my overly large advance from my latest book was dwindling-draining, really-in one of the most expensive cities in the world. The kind of citiy I'd always dreamed about. The kind of life I'd always dreamed about. Sure, I had money to back it up with. I could pay back the advance and retire, if I wanted to be careful. Quiet. But it wasn't about the art. It was about the empty page. If it came down to it, materialistic and superficial shrew I'd turned myself into, I'd still trade a full page for an empty bank account.
Though I'd never had that problem. Not since I started writing. Not since my debut set the world on fire.
But lately, I'd felt lost. Restless, despite my literary success, my bulging bank accoung, my rabid, if not obsessive, readers. I liked that obsession. No I loved it, The darker the better. The mail that bordered on psychotic and maybe should've been passed on to a law enforcemetn professional...yeah, that was my favorite.
I was living a life most true artist never got to live while creating. Henry David Thoreau, Melville, Emily Dickinson, the name a few. They lived sad, sparse lives, and their books made them millionaires in death.
I had parties thrown for me-despite the fact I despised every guest and the leeches throwing the-I wen on talk shows, book tours. Again, I hated those and had significantly cut down on them the past two years, and cancelled all my upcoming ones. My reason for that wasn't exactly hatred, but it was a lie I told myself to keep it all together.
But still, in my career, despite the dark shadows, I had it 'all.'
Personally-surface level, of course- I also had it "all."
The man who got down on one knee with that deep red box edged with gold and promise. He wore ten thousan-dollar suits. He had been featured as one of the most eligible bachelors in the city. Family was moneyed, snobby, and still had household staff. Everything that was wrong with society and wrong with us as humans, it was still desirable. We all ached to be part of the club that had systematically destroyed empathy, humanity.
Even me. The dark sheep of my family, the literary world. I reveled in being an outcast but basked in the beige, rich, and bigoted world of my fiancé, and the boyfriend that came before him.
Then there were the hotel rooms. The rooms I had once loved for their lack of personality and wealth of possibly only taunted me with  my empty page and broken brain. That yawning emptiness that only intensified as I continued not writing.
  Not writing turned me into...something.
Someone decidedly more volatile and unhinged than I already was before, which was pretty fucking unhinged.
I became more paranoid, uncomfortable, moody, all-around evil, if I was honest. My vision sharpened as well. I saw too clearly just how much I'd been lying to myself. The horrid and vapid life I'd wrapped myself up in. Starting with the man who gave me the tacky, expensive, and cliché diamond I'd slid off my finger the same morning I'd bought the cabin is Washington.
Yes, bought. Sight unseen. In somewhere as drastically different from New York as I could possibly get. I wasn't known for doing thing by halves, and this was a full overhaul of my life.
The plan was to lock myself away from civilization-if that't what you could call New York-and write a book I'd promised my publisher. That's what all the great writers did, didn't they? Shut out all outside distractions, forced themselves to look forwards for the story, for their madness.
It had seemed so simple, so enticing. it was a Band-Aid over a bullet wound, to be sure, but I thought it would tide me over for this book, at least.
But now, staring at the road, feeling the trees swallowing me up...yeah, it was not enticing at all.
  I'd made a mistake.
  A huge one.
But I had to follow it through.
  So, I followed the road.

I looked down at her fitted white pants, covered in dirt marks. Even though she looked sexy as hell, I had to ask. "Why the hell does my mother insist on the staff wearing all white?"
"You'll have to ask her, although I like to think of it as practice for my future nursing career."
“I guess that’s one way to look at it. It kind of freaks me out. It’s like you’re all part of some cult.” I chuckled.
“I wonder what she’d do if I showed up in black. She’d shun me.” She snapped her fingers jokingly. “Oh wait…”
Except I wasn’t laughing now. I felt horrible that she knew exactly how my mother felt about her.
“I’m sorry she’s such a bitch, Raven.”
“It’s not your fault.” She looked out at the ocean, then promptly changed the subject. "You must be excited to go to Connecticut in the fall.”
“At this very moment, thanks to you, I'm in absolutely no rush to leave this spot, let alone Palm Beach.”
She blushed. "You're funny.”
“You're f*cking beautiful.” That just came out. “I'm sorry if that was too forward. But it’s true,” I said.
“No.” Her cheeks turned pink. "Thank you."
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
She pushed some hair behind her ear. "No."
"I want to take you out."
She looked down at her empty cup. "I don't think so.”
Ouch. “Can I ask why?”
“It's not that I'm not interested, but…you're leaving in the fall, so I’m not sure it makes sense to start anything up. Then there’s the bigger issue of your mother. I just don't think it's a good idea.”
"I get it." I nodded. "I understand."
Holy sh*t. I wasn't used to rejection. I couldn't remember the last time a girl had said no to me. I swear to God, my dick just stiffened. What was it about the chase that was so damn arousing? I had to find another way…
"Can we hang out as friends, then?"
She grinned skeptically. “Friends?”
"There's this improv club near where you live. I wanted to go check it out this weekend. Would you want to go with me?"
“Venturing to the other side of the bridge, eh?” she teased. “What would Mother think?”
“Will you come with me, wiseass?”
"Seriously, what if your mom finds out?"
"She won't. She doesn't really question where I go. I'll just tell her I'm going to meet a friend. And thanks to your rejection, that won’t be a lie, right?”
Raven blinked for a while before she finally answered, "Okay. Yeah."
My heart sped up. "Yeah?"

Synopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

It was the summer of my life.
I’d met the guy of my dreams.
Unfortunately, he was the son of my uppity employer—and very much off-limits.
But Gavin was a rebel. He knew his mother would disown him if she found out about us; in his eyes, we just had to be careful.
He never treated me as his mother did—like hired help.
Instead, Gavin put me on a pedestal and loved me harder than I’d ever been loved in my life.

What a summer it was.
Until it all ended—badly.

I was never supposed to see Gavin again.
That didn’t stop me from thinking about him every day for ten years.
I knew little about his life now, just that he was an entrepreneur living an ocean away.

When a twist of fate had me working again in the very place our love affair started a decade earlier, I knew it was only a matter of time before I might see him again.
But I wasn’t prepared.
What if he hated me?
What if he loved someone else now?
I wasn’t prepared for all the unknowns.

And most of all, I wasn’t prepared for today to be the day he came back.
